We are pleased to announce the addition of Peter Wells, Vice President, Service, for Vestas and Ron Stimmel, Senior Program Manager, Global Renewable Energy Strategy, for Amazon to the Wind Energy Foundation’s (WEF) Board of Directors. Peter and Ron have a wealth of knowledge that will provide great value to WEF.
Wells is Vice President of Vestas’ service operations in the United States and Canada, where he leads a team of over 1,500 employees. Prior to joining Vestas, he served as CEO of UpWind Solutions, Inc., the leading independent service provider in North America, where during his four year tenure he lead the company to become the most successful ISP in the US market and guided it’s eventual acquisition by Vestas. Wells has 27 years of global experience in renewable energy, energy technology, energy services, power projects, construction engineering, and consulting. This experience includes over a decade of service in various roles at GE. During his tenure as the leader of the parts services business, Wells delivered substantial organic growth while significantly improving customer performance metrics.
Prior to joining GE in the United States, he had over 10 years of commercial operations and project management experience working for European companies in the UK, Belgium, and Asia that provided design and construction management services on large infrastructure projects around the world. Wells graduated from Nottingham Trent University with a B.Sc (Hons) degree in Quantity Surveying and was elected a professional Associate of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.
Stimmel has worked in the renewable energy sector since 2006 when he began his career as a lobbyist for the American Wind Energy Association. Since then he has been involved in CleanTech finance, startups, and policymaking, and currently manages the renewable energy strategy for Amazon.com’s global operations. In 2015, Ron was selected as one of 90 individuals in the U.S. to participate in Harvard’s inaugural Young American Leaders Program, where community leaders collaborate to promote U.S. competitiveness. Ron served on a subcommittee of Washington Gov. Jay Inslee’s Climate Task Force, is an advisor for energy-efficiency finance startup Allumia LLC, and sits on the board of directors Future of American Energy, a non-profit supporting diversity in the energy sector. Ron holds a BA in Government from Georgetown and an MBA from Columbia.
